Cervical cancer is the most common cancer in Paraguay. Human papilloma virus infection is the most frecuent sexually transmitted disease, and is well established as a fact that papillomavirus(HPV) is a necessary factor for development of severe cervical dysplasia which may lead to cervical cancer. The objective of this transversal study is to determine clinical demographic characteristics of women attenddent at the IICS for detection of high risk HPV(HR-HPV)by Hybrid Capture II® between May 2006-2007; of the 248 women studied, 85% of them from the urbane areas of Paraguay with an average of age of 34±11 year-old, and positive samples were found in 41%. Cytological results showed 27% of the normal or inflammatory cytologies were positive for HYBRID CAPTURE II®. Post-treatment samples analyzed showed 78% infection by HR-HPV negative, showing the high effectiveness of the medical treatment by means of the Test de HPV.
