Abstract

MENDOZA, LP et al. Detection of human papillomavirus by PCR RFLP assay in a case with negative hybrid capture II result and high grade intraepithelial neoplasia Pap smear result. Mem. Inst. Investig. Cienc. Salud [online]. 2007, vol.5, n.1, pp.50-52. ISSN 1812-9528.

Persistent infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) is a necessary factor for the development of cervical carcinoma. We present a 43 year old woman with cytological studies results of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade III (CIN III) having negatives results for colposcopy and anatomopathologic studies, as well as for DNA HR-HPV analysed by Hybrid Capture II assay. After that, a histopathological evaluation confirmed the existence of this lesion in cervical mucosa. In order to detect others HPV types not included in the Capture Hybrid II, the sample was analyzed by PCR-RFLP, assay with a positive result for HPV 73. In this case, the use of PCR-RFLP assay allow to detect a type-specific HPV infection, providing a useful information that could help in the clinical management of woman with cytological diagnosis of CIN III and negative Hybrid Capture II results.

Keywords : HPV 73; CIN III; Hybrid Capture II; PCR-RFLP.
