SAMUDIO DOMINGUEZ, Gloria Celeste et al. Herpes Simplex Virus encephalitis with persistently positive PCR in cerebrospinal fluid. About a neonatal case. Pediatr. (Asunción) [online]. 2022, vol.49, n.2, pp.122-129. ISSN 1683-9803.  https://doi.org/10.31698/ped.49022022008.

Herpes virus infections in the neonatal stage can cause high morbidity and mortality. The persistence of the virus, despite first-line treatment, can lead to devastating consequences for the patient. We present the case of a neonatal patient with persistence of Herpes Simplex Virus in the CSF, in whic foscarnet treatment was required to contain the infection.

Keywords : Neonatal herpes; encephalitis; viral persistence; acyclovir; foscarnet.
