Abstract

CHAMORRO NOCEDA, Luís Alberto; ROJAS DE RECALDE, Laura; LEIVA, Fanny  and  MOREL, Zoilo. Spondylodiscitis. Case reports. Pediatr. (Asunción) [online]. 2016, vol.43, n.1, pp.52-58. ISSN 1683-9803.  https://doi.org/10.18004/ped.2016.abril.52-58.

Spondylodiscitis is a disorder of a generally infectious etiology that compromises the vertebral body and the intervertebral disc of the backbone in any of its locations (cervical, dorsal, and lumbar), although in most cases it is not possible to identify the causal etiological agent; the affection in children is uncommon, its diagnosis is always difficult and therefore, it is usually late, with the relevant delay of the treatment and with the possibility of complications. Hereby, we are presenting two patients who were admitted after several weeks since the beginning of the symptoms and whose diagnosis was performed afterwards through MRI at the hospital´s room, where irritability, sitting pain, standing pain, and walking difficulty highlighted. In both cases, the affection was located on the lumbar spine, between L3-L4 and L4-L5; after treated with endovenous antibiotics and immobilization, the patients were discharged in good conditions.

Keywords : Spondylodiscitis; discitis; spondyloarthritis.
