DUARTE CABALLERO, Alicia; FONSECA, Rosanna; ESPINOLA DE CANATA, Miriam  y  DUARTE MASI, Sergio. Productivity of the Paraguayan Journal Pediatria from 2002 to 2012. Pediatr. (Asunción) [online]. 2014, vol.41, n.1, pp.9-15. ISSN 1683-9803.

Introduction: Creation and dissemination of research in Paraguay is a tool for the improvement of healthcare for the population. Objective: To describe the characteristics of scientific production published in the Paraguayan Journal Pediatría from 2002 to 2012. Methodology: We conducted a descriptive, retrospective, exploratory study that analyzed articles published in the Journal Pediatría from 2002 to 2012 including original articles, case series, and literature reviews published in the regularly scheduled issues. Analysis included the year of publication, type of article, number of articles, number of authors, thematic axis, responsible institution, institutions of primary authors, and number of citations for original articles in Google Scholar. Results: A total of 161 articles by 598 authors from 217 institutions were included, with a yearly average of between 6 and 8 articles per issue, an average number of authors per article of 3.714. The most common thematic axis was public health, which was addressed in 41 articles. The most productive contributing institution was the National University of Asunción, with 58 articles; followed by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, with 45 articles; and the Central Hospital of the Social Insurance Institute (IPS), with 20 articles. The most prolific first author published 8 articles as a first author. The highest number of citations received, according to Google Scholar, was 40; the citations recorded were primarily through secondary sources (SciELO, Chile). Conclusion: The Journal offers broad coverage through integration with various institutions and collaboration between authors, and enjoys national and international recognition for its published works. However, it's production and international visibility should still be considered limited.
