Abstract

CAMMARATA-SCALISI, Francisco et al. Meningiomas in pediatric age. Presentation of two cases. Pediatr. (Asunción) [online]. 2010, vol.37, n.3, pp.199-203. ISSN 1683-9803.

Introduction: Meningiomas are central nervous system neoplasms derived from arachnoid cap cells; they are very rare in children and exhibit different behavior clinical-pathologic in patients of this age group. Case report: We reported two cases of meningiomas in pediatric patients, the first grade II of clear-cell intraspinal and the second grade III papillary with findings focal rhabdoid, metastatic intracranial, that correspond infrequent histopathology variants of aggressive behavior and thus explaining the increased recurrence rate despite the multimodal treatment. Comments: Due to the high proportion of histological subtypes of malignant meningiomas in the pediatric age, the histopathology diagnosis is necessary, following the criteria of classification of grading of the World Health Organization to consider the treatment and exhaustive monitoring.
