Abstract

Meningococcal disease is a contagious disease caused by the Gram-negative bacteria Neisseria meningitidis, or meningococcus.Patients with invasive meningococcal disease can present a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, among which are meningococcal purpura fulminans, which has high rates of morbidity and mortality. We present the case of a 13 year-old child with meningococcal purpura fulminans who presented hematogenous osteomyelitis in the context of a clinical picture of disseminated intravascular coagulation.
