Introduction:
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is an autoimmune neuromuscular disease characterized by muscle weakness and fatigue. The thymectomy is a surgical technique that allows to achieve a better control of the symptoms caused by this pathology. The objective of this work is to show the experience of this surgical team with this operative modality.
Materials and Methods:
Observational, descriptive, retrospective cross-sectional study. All patients surgically treated by the same surgical team were included in the period from February 2014 to February 2019. Demographic characteristics of the series, histopathological results and morbidity and mortality of the series are described.
Results:
12 patients were operated on during this period of time (7 women), between 21 and 65 years old (average 35 years). Seven of the patients presented thymic hyperplasia and 3 cases with a normal thymus.
Conclusions:
The patients undergoing thymectomy in the majority were young, with a slight predominance of women. Most have presented thymic hyperplasia in the anatomopathological result. Postoperative morbidity was minimal.
