Abstract
VERA-BACHMANN, Daniela; VALENZUELA-GAMIN, Ana and ALVAREZ-ESPINOZA, Alejandro. Educational Psychology in rural contexts: are we ready? Notes on the Chilean case. Rev. Int. Investig. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2016, vol.12, n.2, pp.283-302. ISSN 2226-4000. https://doi.org/10.18004/riics.2016.diciembre.283-302.
Currently in Chile, the professional development of Psychology has experienced a great diversification. Nowadays, the working insertion into the rural schools has become a common practice. Unfortunately, both the intervention policies applied to rural areas and the formal undergraduate training in Psychology, frequently share guideliness designed and oriented to the urban environment. Moreover, just few studies on rural education, challenge the Educational Psychologist to adapt their practice to the context, knowing there is no specific training on the subject. Hence, there is a need to re-evaluate the practice of Educational Psychologists in rural schools; as a way of sketching a professional role that can properly respond to the demands of this peculiar working environment.
