Akodon montensis, a persistent host for Hantavirus, is a common rodent species in primary and secondary forests, and is considered to be a generalist species. Determining the environmental factors which affect it would help to evaluate how habitat quality affects the species’ abundance and density. Three pairs of mark-recapture grids were established, classified into three disturbance levels, and sampled for five nights. The results show that in higher disturbances there is a lower average abundance (38 individuals) compared to the lowest disturbance (64 individuals), and the same is true for population density. Similarly, it is encountered more frequently in microhabitat with less degradation. Despite being considered a generalist species, A. montensis responds in varied ways to the different changes (disturbances) that may occur in the habitat, although it tends to be negatively affected by high disturbances.
