GIMENEZ AYALA, Andrea Elizabeth; GARCIA, Francisca Elizabeth  y  BARBOZA LISBOA, Celia Liz. Determinants of health related to visceral leishmaniasis in residents of the San Francisco neighborhood of Presidente Franco, Alto Paraná, 2017. Rev. cient. cienc. salud [online]. 2019, vol.1, n.1, pp.11-18. ISSN 2664-2891.  https://doi.org/10.53732/rccsalud/01.01.2019.11.

Leishmaniasis are parasitic diseases caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania that affects animals and humans through vector transmission. The urbanization of LV is related to several determinants, such as environmental changes, migration, interaction and dissemination of jungle reservoirs and infected dogs to areas without transmission, and adaptation of the vector to the peridomiciliary environment. This study was conducted with the objective of knowing the main environmental health determinants related to visceral leishmaniasis, present in the San Francisco neighborhood of Presidente Franco, Alto Paraná, during the year 2017. It was an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study in the one that censuses 121 houses. The family census instrument of the Family Health Units and a questionnaire for observations of the environment and animals were applied. In the study it was possible to confirm the presence of age groups of risk (17,4% children), deficiencies in terms of the quality of the houses (24,8% poor quality), and the conditions of overcrowding (19,1% medium-high), the presence of animals that can act as reservoirs for the disease (70,2% dogs), and of food sources for the vector, as well as vegetation and organic matter in the soil. All transmission axes for visceral leishmaniasis are present in the peridomestic environment of the San Francisco neighborhood of Presidente Franco, so it is important to monitor this disease and its risk factors in this location.

Palabras clave : visceral leishmaniasis; social determinants of health; risk factor.
