Disability is a current phenomenon in our society. The family is the fundamental axis in the care and protection of their children, however, the arrival of a child with a diagnosis of disability, alters the emotional status of the parents. This study focused on the analysis of the emotions and feelings experienced by the family and all the parents of children with disabilities, to the receipt of diagnosis. Discusses the grieving process from a psychological perspective and implications in the affectivity of the involved. The methodology was based on a review of the literature on the subject. The results show that the emotional wear parents receive the diagnosis of your child's disability, in addition to the frustration experienced by not fulfilling their expectations, generate deterioration in the family system, mainly in the communicational-affective relationships.
