Explained that non- linear loads are associated with deterioration of distribution transformers, based on the compilation of previous studies regarding the non-linear loads, effects of harmonics and the principle of transformation, enabling understand well why this association causes an effect counterproductive in distribution transformers and elucidating one of the unknowns in the technical field which is the alarming increase in breakdowns distribution transformers, great inconvenience of heavy losses to undertakings entrusted the power supply. By means of a test conducted in the laboratories of the National Institute of Technology Standardization and Metrology was achieved affirm this hypothesis. Was subjected to an electric transformer to the two types of loads (linear and nonlinear) comparing the results shows that the transformer under non-linear loads has a considerable level of losses compared to the same transformer subjected to purely linear loads , being considerably increased and detrimental to the same temperature.
