PORTILLO, Guido Arnaldo  y  RENAUT AQUINO, Juan Eusebio. Effect of weaning age on the initial growth of piglets in confinement. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.1, pp.57-61. ISSN 2305-0683.

To evaluate the effects of three weaning ages on the initial growth of piglets in confinement, this research was conducted in a particular farm in the company Yatebo located in the district of San Pedro de Ycuamandyyú, Paraguay, during a period of 45 days. Were determined live weight gain (LWG) and total (TLWG), the average daily gain (ADG) at 15, 30 and 45 days and finally feed conversion (FC) of the experimental stage. Treatments consisted of three lots of pigs weaned in different ages: 20th, 30th and 40th days considered T1, T2 and T3, respectively, with four replications distributed in a completely randomized design. It was observed significant statistical differences in all the variables studied in the first and second stage, not being observed this effect in the third period. The pigs weaned to the 20th  days with those weaned to the 30th  days presented better behaviors in the LWG and ADG in the first and second period of evaluation, likewise in the TLWG and FC of the experimental period. It is concluded that it is possible to wean from 20th days to 30th days of age of piglets without compromising their performance.
