DIAZ LARENAS, Claudio Heraldo; RUIZ-TAGLE, Diego; TAGLE OCHOA, Tania y ALARCON HERNANDEZ, Paola. Lesson planning and classroom performance on English teaching preservice teachers: a preliminary scanner in three Chilean universities. Rev. Int. Investig. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2016, vol.12, n.1, pp.15-28. ISSN 2226-4000. https://doi.org/10.18004/riics.2016.julio.15-28.
Both lesson planning and classroom teaching are two key professional competencies for teacher training, which need to be deeply analyzed in the search for teacher improvement. This study describes thirty preservice teachers’ lesson planning and classroom performances; they are third and fifth year participants from an English Teaching Program. Through documentary analysis of lesson plans and non-participant observation of classroom performances, it becomes evident that third and fifth year preservice teachers reveal inadequate competencies to formulate learning objectives and assessment strategies that can allow them to be effective teachers, Additionally, group management is another competence that poses an important challenge for preservice teachers.
