Resumen

GOMEZ GRANCE, Freddy J.  y  RODRIGUEZ ZARATE, Yamila L.. Importance of the dose index in computed tomography (CTDI) for the radiological protection of patients submitted to tomographic studies. Rep. cient. FACEN [online]. 2018, vol.9, n.1, pp.24-30. ISSN 2222-145X.  https://doi.org/10.18004/rcfacen.2018.9.1.24.

Computed Tomography (CT) is a radiological procedure that uses ionizing radiation to obtain high- quality cross-sectional images of the scanned body. These images are reconstructed using software that in turn informs the value of the Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDI), with which can estimate the absorbed dose by the patient. The present review of the state of the art aims to: Analyze the importance of CTDI reports in tomographic studies, for the Radiological Protection of the patient. The methodology used in this investigation is based on a descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study, since it was limited to the exhaustive search of information related to the Radiological Protection of the Patient and the dose delivered by the CT. Once the bibliographic data was collected and processed, an evaluation of each article found was made, in order to issue a conclusive opinion about the importance of the CTDI, in this sense we observed the largest number of publications dedicated to the determination of the CTDI and not to the evaluation of effective doses, in addition to finding accidents related to overexposure during a tomographic study. Therefore, we conclude that by knowing the CTDI, it is possible to identify dose ranges that exceed the reference values, estimate the biological risk associated with an exploration by calculating the effective dose and optimize the protocols used to guarantee the Radiological Protection of the patients, thus avoiding accidents or incidents in the Radiological services.
