CASCO, Christian Asad et al. ASSOCIATION BETWEEN LEVELS OF CARCINOEMBRYONIC ANTIGEN (CEA) AND PROGNOSTIC VARIABLES OF COLON CANCER. Rev. Cir. Parag. [online]. 2018, vol.42, n.1, pp.14-18. ISSN 2307-0420. https://doi.org/10.18004/sopaci.2018.abril.14-18.
Objectives:
Determinate the association between levels of Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) and prognostic variables of colon cancer
Method:
Cross-sectional, retrospective analytical observational study, from 2005 to 2015. Population: Patients with anatomopathological diagnosis of colon adenocarcinoma admitted to the Services of the 1st and 2nd Cathedra of Surgical Clinic of the Hospital de Clínicas of San Lorenzo. Non-probabilistic sampling by convenience. Materials: Clinical records of patients.
Results:
76 patient records were analyzed, with the diagnosis of colon adenocarcinoma. Predominance of the female sex in 53%. The mean age was 58.59 ± 14.97. 54% of the patients consulted for abdominal pain. 54% correspond to the right colon. Looking for a relationship between the CEA value and the prognostic factors taken into account for colon adenocarcinoma, a non-significant difference was obtained in all cases. Significant value was establish has a p˂0,05.
Conclusion:
CEA values are not related or are independent of variables that may indicate severity in colon cancer.
