Resumen

NASCIMENTO, Moysés et al. Spearman correlation coefficient applied to the study of adaptability and stability in alfalfa genotypes. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2013, vol.15, n.2, pp.83-90. ISSN 2305-0683.

The objective of this work was to propose a new methodology based on Spearman correlation coefficient for the study of adaptability and stability of alfalfa genotypes. The results were compared with those obtained by the methodology based on the test signals. The alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) forage yield of 92 genotypes was used. The trial had a randomized block design, with two replicates, and the data were used to test the method. The genotypes underwent 20 cuts, from November 2004 to June 2006 in the experimental field of Embrapa Pecuária Sudeste - São Carlos/SP. Each cut was considered an environment. The Spearman correlation coefficient is efficient to study of adaptability and stability. Moreover, when compared with the methodology based on the signals test, the Spearman correlation coefficient it is more efficient in the discrimination of genotypes.

Palabras clave : Medicago sativa; genotype-environment interaction; plant breeding.
