Abstract

RODRIGUEZ TORRES, Claudia Margarita; HERNANDEZ MADRIGAL, Mónica; RAMIREZ FLORES, Élfego  and  VEGA CAMPOS, Miguel Ángel. Perception of the users of the Mexican Institute of Social Security about the universal health reform project. Acad. (Asunción) [online]. 2024, vol.11, n.2, pp.136-148. ISSN 2414-8938.  https://doi.org/10.30545/academo.2024.may-ago.4.

The objective of this research was to determine how beneficiaries of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) perceive the universal health care reform project in terms of the variables of financing and provision of services in the city of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. The study was carried out under a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational methodological approach, applying a questionnaire to a stratified sample of 384 IMSS beneficiaries. Although the results highlight the low knowledge of the aspects of the reform project towards the universality of health services, users confirm the need for changes in the current health system and their willingness to make an additional contribution conditioned to the improvement of the service. The conclusions highlight some progress in the migration towards a universal health system, although there is still time to get the reform approved. This work aims to contribute to the existing literature by offering practical reflections that support the design and implementation of public policies in the health sector.
