Abstract

CHOCOBAR REYES, Emilio José. Entrepreneurs and their skills. Rev. ciente. UCSA [online]. 2023, vol.10, n.2, pp.32-42. ISSN 2409-8752.  https://doi.org/10.18004/ucsa/2409-8752/2023.010.02.032.

The objective of the research is to determine the main skills applied by entrepreneurs graduated from an educational institution in Lima, Peru. A mixed, qualitative and quantitative approach methodology is used, applying documentary review, interview and survey. It is of a descriptive level, field design, non-experimental and cross-sectional with a non-probabilistic sample for convenience for five entrepreneurs of the microentrepreneur category. The results show that entrepreneurs have great “know how to be” skills, that is, they consider themselves proactive, risk takers, creative, self-aware and self-efficient, with sufficient self-confidence in their abilities, that they can tolerate uncertainty and that they are persevering. From the same firm, they demonstrate not very developed basic skills of “knowing how to know”, that is, they apply their economic and financial knowledge in a basic way without having detailed strategic and financial planning, or written staff functions. Finally, they demonstrate “know-how” skills, that is, they feel capable of solving their problems, exploring new opportunities, establishing very good communication channels and mechanisms, planning at a basic level, and demonstrating high teamwork. The limitations are related to the restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic that prevent visits to the premises of each of the businessmen. From an ethical point of view, all copyrights are respected by correctly applying APA version 7 standards.
