Abstract

A cross-sectional, descriptive, retrospective observational study was conducted in 109 patients operated on for hernias during 2018 in the Surgery Department of the Central Military Hospital, where data on patient records were taken in terms of sex, age, type of hernia and technique surgical used. The unilateral inguinal hernia represented 50.46% of 109 patients who came for surgery in the Surgery Department of the Central Military Hospital in the 2018 period, of which 70.64% were men and the average age of predominant was between 30 and 40 years of age and the technique in greatest percentage used was the Liechtenstein Technique in 100% of the patients with inguinal hernia. It can be concluded that the inguinal hernia is a frequent pathology that is observed more frequently in men, and there was only one 73-year-old male patient with a postoperative complication due to a surgical site infection representing 0.93% of the total sample in this investigation.
