Abstract
PATRICIA ANALI, Galo González¹ et al. Cattle production performance of bulls and steers in a feedlot system in the Department of Boquerón – Central Chaco. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.2, pp.101-106. ISSN 2305-0683.
This research was conducted at the Isla Po'i Experimental Station, a dependence of the Cooperativa Chortitzer Ltda, located about 15 km from the city of Loma Plata. The aim of the study was to evaluate the productive performance of bulls and steers in a feedlot system, treatments consisted of bulls and steers raised in a pen at a rate of 33 m2 per head, which received a similar diet. The experimental design was randomized complete block and the treatment means were compared using the Student Test at 5% error probability. The variables evaluated were: height of the rump, body length, average daily gain (ADG) in 5 assessment periods, daily total weight gain (DTWG), total weight gain (TWG) and yield of beef. Of the 5 periods (P) evaluated, there was detected statistically significant difference in P5 for ADG, where intact males were higher than those castrated with gains of 1.221 and 0.500 kg/day, respectively. Intact males had higher TWG and DTWG than castrated males by 23.3% and 22.2%, respectively. No statistically significant differences in rump height, body length and yield response were observed.
