Abstract
CIPRIANO RAMON, Enciso Garay¹; JOEL MARIO, Maidana Brizuela¹ and VICTORIA, Santacruz Oviedo ². Evaluation of sweet corn genotypes. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.2, pp.81-86. ISSN 2305-0683.
The objective of this study was to determine the vegetative growth, yield and quality of ears of sweet corn genotypes Xtra Sweet, Isla, Brigth Jean, Tyiga, Golden Bantam and Sweet Jean. The experiment was conducted between October 2008 and January 2009, at the Centro Hortifrutícola of the Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias, Universidad Nacional de Asunción, located in San Lorenzo, Paraguay, between the coordinates 25° 21’ south and 57° 27’ west and altitude of 125 meters above sea level. The experimental design was complete randomized blocks, with four replications. The evaluated variables were: plant height, number of leaves, height of ear insertion, ear diameter, number of kernel rows per ear, number of grains per row, length of spikes, mass of commercial spike, grain yield per spike without husk, number of commercial spike per plant, total soluble solids content and production cycle. The results indicate that Isla genotype presented higher plant height (2.94 cm), number of leaves (15) and height of spike insertion (144 cm). Considering the agronomic characteristics, the recommended genotype for its higher productivity is Bright Jean (18 t/ha), ears with greater mass (265.25 g) and grain yield per spike (177.5 g). The production cycle of the genotypes evaluated was between 48 and 73 days.
