Abstract
GODOY ARANA, Ana Elizabeth et al. Palaeozoic of Paraguay: Collection of material fossil (invertebrate flora and fauna) and georefe encing of fossil outcrops of the Región Oriental. Rep. cient. FACEN [online]. 2020, vol.11, n.1, pp.32-38. ISSN 2222-145X. https://doi.org/10.18004/rcfacen.2020.11.1.32.
Paleontology is still an incipient area in Paraguay, to the point that there are few works that have been carried out in this field, at a national level. It is for this reason that there are few antecedents, in the matter, with which it is counted, consisting these, in the majority of the cases, in records of the presence of fossils in localities that were never georeferenced. In general, it is the people who found the materials who communicate with the institution to inform about the discovery of the remains, which turn out to be fossils, but without providing more information about them, so there is no biostratigraphic record left, or about the paleoecological scenarios of the communities where the discoveries were made, and no more data regarding the fossil in question; Because of this, several materials must be analyzed by research centers and universities abroad, in order to obtain the missing data. The zones identified in the project are located in the Eastern region of Paraguay, where there are numerous geological occurrences that hold valuable information about the history of the Earth. There are six zones that were studied within the project, they present sediments of two periods, Silurian and Permian, each with its peculiar characteristics of fauna and flora.
